Collectors were still awaiting the 2021 Special Release when photographs of the Honey Barrel presentation began circulating in early 2022. Its unexpected appearance through US online retailers added to the interest: the bottles had been intended for Europe, but substantial quantities had reached the American market through other channels. The bottles carry a September 17, 2021 dump date.
Despite its name, Honey Barrel is not finished with honey. The name is a nod to the tradition of selecting the best-tasting barrels from the warehouse, often called “sugar” or “honey” barrels. A honeycomb motif appears on both the label and the box.
The Honey Barrel name would return for the 2025 Special Release.
